•I read in a book where someone said, if someone asks you;
As a Catholic, What do you believe?
Recite the creed! It states it all! It's a simple straightforward answer.
I believe in God,the Father almighty,Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried;he descended into hell;on the third day he rose again from the dead;he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
Amen.
Let's break this down
I believe in God (okay self explainatory)
The Father Almighty (That is who we believe God is He has told us He is Our Father we shall have none above Him)
Creator of Heaven and Earth (He created it all)
and in Jesus Christ His only son (We believe in Jesus Christ son of God)
Our Lord (We reconize Jesus as royality as King to be worshipped, loved, and adored.)
who was concieved by the Holy Spirit born of the virgin Mary (He is God & became Man as well)
Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried (He is the lamb of God who is the ultimate sacrifice to save us from sins)
He descended into hell (He went and called all those who have died to Heaven)
on the third day He rose again from the dead (He defeated Death and brings us new life because He is the Son of God!)
He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God The Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. (He is in Heaven with God and He gave us a chance at eternal life in Heaven because of His sacrifice)
I believe in the Holy Spirit (who came down with tongues of fire to be upon us and remain within us to help fuel us to do God's will.)
The Holy Catholic Church (the church of St Peter -'upon this rock I will build by church")
The communion of Saints (we are all the church family of Christ praying and supporting each other's journey to Jesus)
The forgiveness of sins (Jesus's Divine Mercy is so beautiful He forgives us if we confess with true remorse and love)
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting Amen ( He really rose again and because of His great love for us and sacrifice, we will be given everlasting life.
